Abstract

In the past several years a variety of navigation/survey systems have been developed to provide the user with accurate real time positioning capability. Of considerable interest are those systems which incorporate the Transit (Navy Navigation Satellite System or NNSS) satellite system to provide precision positioning data. It is the intent of this paper to first describe some of the recent changes and improvements in the performance of the Transit System and then to describe briefly several positioning systems where Transit data is used either in a stand-alone survey mode or to augment navigation and position data collected from other sensors. In general those systems using only the Transit data are utilized for point positioning and geodetic survey work, while those systems where Transit data is used in combination with data from other sensors are primarily intended as precision navigation or marine survey systems
