Intraspecific variation in the soluble nuclear eye lens proteins of the mullet, Mugil cephalus (L.)

Abstract

The technique of electrophoretic separation of nuclear eye lens protein was applied for studying genetically based molecular variations in the mullet Mugil cephalus. The nuclear eye lens protein was extracted using 0.0189% NaCl solution. Electrophorograms produced five pattern types reflecting heterogeneity. Some variations were found to be due to the size of the fish and therefore their ontogenetic basis is discussed
