Various hydrographic parameters, namely temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and inorganic phosphate were studied in the Mandovi and Zuari estuaries and in the inshore waters of Goa during the period July to October, 1972. Cold waters with temperatures as low as 21.1 degrees C and dissolved oxygen content 0.11 ml/1 were detected in the inshore region during this period. The presence of this cold and low oxygenated waters is thought to be due to the shoreward transport of the offshore upwelled water, bywind and coastal currents
