On the laboratory reared fish eggs and larvae of five species of carangids from the Vellar Estuary, Porto Novo

Abstract



Eggs and larval stages of five species of carangids have been identified and studied in the laboratory. They include: Selaroides leptolepis (8 stages); Carangoides malabaricus (4 stages). Scomberoides tol (5 stages); Decapterus russelli (2 stages) and Alepes djedaba (2 stages). Spawning period of all the five species have been determined with varying degrees of certainty. The probable spawning period of S. leptolepis extended from June to September, C. malabaricus and A. djeddaba from December to April
