Wave climate and wave refraction along Madras Coast

Abstract

Wave climate along Madras Coast (lat. 13 04'N and long. 80 degrees 17'E) for deep and shallow waters have been evaluated and discussed. The bottom topography and the orientation of the coastline seem to have profound influence on the shallow water wave characteristics. Wave refraction diagrams have been constructed for the average wave conditions and the wave energy distribution and the resultant longshore current along the coast have been critically examined
