Determination of age and growth in the toothed ponyfish, Gazza minuta (Bloch) from Porto Novo

Abstract



Age and growth of the toothed ponyfish Gazza minuta, (Bloch) of Porto Novo region were estimated. Length-frequency distribution of fish in commercial catches showed that Gazza minuta attains a length of 98 mm at the end of 1st year and 138 mm at the end of 2nd year of its life. Von Bertalanffy's growth equation fitted for length at age data for Gazza minuta is, Lt = 160 (l-e 0.8649 (t + 0.2316))
