Maturation and fecundity of the mudskipper Boleophthalmus dussumieri Cuv. Val. from the Karachi Coast
Abstract
Maturation and fecundity of the mudskipper Boleophthalmus dussumieri Cuv.
Val. from the Karachi coast were studied from April to October, 1982. Seven stages of maturity are described. Ova diameter polygons indicate that the spawning occurs twice during April-May and July-September in a year. The average size of maturity has been found to be 68-69 mm SL in both sexes. A sex ratio of 1.42 female: 1.00 male was found. The mean fecundity ranged from 986 to 4912 in the fishes ranging in size from 74 to 110 mm. The logarithmic relationships between fecundity and body length, body weight and ovary weight have been determined
