On the bioassay and respiration in the littoral isopods, Sphaeroma annandalei and Cirolana willeyi exposed to the effluents from a titanium dioxide factory

Abstract



Bioassay tests of two littoral isopods, Sphaeroma annandalei and Cirolana willeyi exposed to the effluents from a Titanium dioxide factory showed that the former is much more resistant to the effluent compared to the latter. LC50 values for 24 and 48 hours were tabulated. Reduced pH of the medium after the addition of the effluent has pronounced effect on the survival. In general, the respiratory rates in different effluent concentrations were lower when compared with the control
