On the reproductive biology of grey mullet Valamugil seheli (Forskal) from Mangalore waters
Abstract
Reproductive biology dealing with spawning, size at first maturity, fecundity and sex-ratio of Valamugil seheli from Mangalore waters were studied. The species was found to spawn once in a year during August to January. Males attain maturity at 222.5 mm whereas females mature at 243.5 mm total length. The fecundity of the species varied from 2,08,482 to 12,78,138 eggs. The sex ratio of males and females was 2.09:1
