Seasonal growth, phytomass and spore shedding of Bangiopsis subsimplex (Mont.) schmitz

Abstract



Bangiopsis subsimplex (Mont.) Schmitz is a Rhodophyceae member growing on the intertidal rocky surfaces of Visakhapatnam coast from November to July. Monthly data on seasonal changes in growth, phytomass and spore liberation for the alga was collected from November 1984 to July 1986. The alga attained maximum growth and phytomass in the month of February and also give rise to maximum monospore production corresponding to the seasonal growth
