Polyphenols content of Indian seaweeds

Abstract



Water soluble polyphenols content of 15 species of brown seaweeds collected from Goa, Mandapam and Visakhapatnam Coasts, (India) have been reported. The concentration ranged from 0.23 to 2.06% dry wt. Analysis of different parts of Sargassum and Turbinaria revealed that polyphenols accumulate with variable quantities with a maximum in apical frond like portions and minimum in the middle thallus
