Incidence of Vibrio cholerae in Muttom coastal waters, southwest coast of India
Abstract
The distribution of Vibrio cholerae in water and sediment samples of Muttom Coast, Tamil Nadu, India was studied for a year followed by an extensive survey of the pathogen in marketed fish and fresh bivalves. All the water samples were positive for the pathogen. Among the seafoods analysed, V. cholerae was detected in 12.1% of prawns, 26% of crabs and 20% of bivalves. No sample harboured V. cholerae 01.
