Commercial production of Macrobrachium malcolmsonii seeds using synthetic water and crude common salt

P. Soundarapandian, M.J. Samuel, T. Kannupandi

As water having 18 ppm salinity is a pre-requisite for successful larval rearing of Macrobrachium malcolmsonii, some commercially available salts and crude common salt were used for preparing this salinity. The result showed that there was significant difference in the post-larval production, percentage of survival and post larvae/litre in both the media used for the study. This study will be useful not only in the production of seeds of M. malcolmsonii round the year but also in establishing hatcheries in inland regions
