Observations on the distribution of benthic fauna in Vellar Estuary, Porto Novo

Abstract



Occurrence, abundance and seasonal variation of the major groups of macro- and meiobenthic fauna from the Vellar Estuary, Tamil Nadu, India were studied from October 1978 to September 1979. Macrofauna were dominated by polychaetes and meiofauna by nematodes and harpacticoids. Environmental parameters such as temperature, salinity, oxygen and sediment were monitored at different stations and correlated with the abundance
