Diurnal migration of estuarine intertidal meiofauna
Abstract
Vertical and horizontal migration of estuarine intertidal meiofauna were observed. Distinct vertical migration occurred in the top 10cm of the sediment. Strong horizontal movements were observed during receding tides. Differential movement of individual fraction of a meiofaunal community may be attributed either to its reaction to any of the environmental factors such as tide, water-table dessication and bacterial population or to the combined effect of all these factors
