Observations on the length-weight relationship of pomfrets from the Bay of Bengal
Abstract
Length-weight relationship of the three species of pomfrets (Family-stromateidae) from the Bay of Bengal showed that there is allometric pattern of growth in the Indian pomfrets. Although pomfrets are commercially important, very little is known about their length-weight relationship. Excepting a short account on black pomfrets (Parastromateus niger) of higher size range (Rao, 1972), there absolutely no report on this aspect either on silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) or on the Chinese pomfret (Pampus chinensis). The present note deals with the relationship between length and weight in all the three species from juveniles to the adults
